Good afternoon caregivers of Arnold H. McLeod School,

This is the weekly voicemail message for Friday May 10th:

Please note that there is no school on Friday May 17th due to staff professional learning and again on Monday May 20th due to the Victoria Day holiday.

Arnold H. McLeod will be hosting its thirteenth annual Night of the Arts celebration on Thursday May 16th from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm.  The theme of this year’s event is “Our Favorites featuring music from the Beatles”. In lieu of admission to the Night of the Arts we are asking for a donation to the AHM Breakfast Program.  Items such as cereal bars, jam, and Cheez Whiz would be very much appreciated.  You will also have the opportunity to purchase any piece of art on display with a donation of your choice to the AHM Arts Fund.  The Home and School will also be selling baked goods before and after the show.  We hope to see you there.

AHM will be participating in our annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraising event.  Envelopes were sent home this week. The school benefits by receiving 10% of all money raised.  We appreciate your support for this worthwhile fundraiser.

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE:  June 5th is our Kindergarten Orientation Day for those students who will begin their school journey with us in September.  Current Kindergarten students will stay home that day.  An invitation was sent via mail to all of our registered pre-K students.

Should you wish your child to take a bus to a location that is not your home for the 2024-2025 school year or if you are in a shared custody situation with bussing to two locations, you will need to fill in an Alternate Conveyance form.  Please contact your child’s teacher for a form. The forms are filled in now to allow transportation to process the forms over the summer and avoid up to a three week wait in September for bussing to be arranged. The school cannot speed up this process in the Fall.

Regarding bussing in the fall, with the increased demands on bussing for next year it is possible that your child may not receive bussing if you live within 1.5 km of the school, even though your child takes the bus this year.  We want to give parents ample notice to make other arrangements to get their child to school.

Beginning next fall, AHM will be going paperless for the forms that are sent home during the first week of school.  All parents will be required to fill the forms in online.  This is done through School Cash Net. Please register via the district website under the “School Fees and Forms” before beginning of the year.  This initiative will allow us to save a considerable amount of paper and you to save time by completing the forms prior to the school year beginning.

Provincial Assessments begin on Monday for those students in Grade 4 English and Grade 5.  The assessments will take place at different intervals during the day, depending on the class schedule. It is important that your child is well rested, to school on time and have a nutritional breakfast.

Thanks for reading.  Have a great weekend.
