Happy New Year AHM Families,

The Week of January 5th, 2026

at Arnold H. McLeod School:

Learn to Learn Week

As we begin 2026, we are excited to welcome our students back to school tomorrow. We hope your families had a restful and healthy holiday break. Thank you for your continued support of the AHM School Community. This week is Learn to Learn Week (entitled ‘Back to Our Best’ for students) at AHM. After time away from school, we use this week to review, model, and discuss school expectations that support student learning and well-being. The start of a new year is also a great opportunity for families to refresh their understanding of our school guidelines.

Students are required to follow our LEARN expectations.

L – Look, Listen and Grow
E – Excited and Engaged
A – Accepting of Everyone
R – Respectful and Responsible
N – Never Give Up

We also have our Politeness Police Characters. These characters model resiliency, self-regulation, manners and mindfulness.
You can learn more about our characters here: Politeness Police Bios for announcements.docx

Student expectations can also be found in our Student Handbook: Student-Handbook-25-26.docx

Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is essential for student success. Being at school every day helps students:

  • Keep up with lessons and learning
  • Build strong relationships with peers and teachers
  • Develop important routines and skills for lifelong learning

We appreciate your support in ensuring students arrive on time (by 8:25am) and attend school consistently.

Positive Communication Between Home and School
Strong communication between families and school staff supports student learning and well-being. Ways to maintain positive communication include:

  • Sharing important updates about your child’s health, learning, or emotional well-being
  • Asking questions and seeking clarification when needed, please reach out directly to your child’s homeroom teacher
  • Celebrating successes and achievements together
  • Using respectful, solution-focused communication to address concerns

Monthly Service Project

Our service project for the month of January is Valentines for Vets. Students will create valentines for service members that have contributed to the safe keeping of our country.  They can include messages of thanks, thinking of you, or just simply Happy Valentine’s Day. These cards will be mailed to Veterans Affairs on Prince Edward Island to be distributed to vets across Canada.
