Good afternoon caregivers of Arnold H. McLeod School,
This will be the final voicemail message for the 2023-2024 school year.
Tomorrow, Friday, June 21st will the last day of for students and it is a full day. Report cards cannot be given prior to dismissal. If your child will be absent or leaving early you will need to send in a self-addressed stamped envelope and your child’s report card will be mailed to you. Or you can simply look at the Parent Portal for report cards. School Supply lists are on the AHM and District websites as well as an attachment in your child’s report card envelope.
There are 8 Yearbooks available to purchase, cost of 15$ each. If interested, please come to the school on Monday or Tuesday to purchase. First come first served. Thank you.
In the fall, staggered entry will be the same as last school year. On Tuesday September 3rd half of each homeroom class will attend and then on Wednesday September 4th the other half will come to school. All students will return on Thursday and Friday of that week. The students first day being a smaller class size allows for a smoother transition and more 1 on 1 time for the teacher to learn new routines and procedures. The week of August 26th you will be contacted by your child’s homeroom teacher regarding the first day of school.
The playground continues to be under construction, and we don’t advise parents to allow their children to come play at the school independently. There are many construction vehicles on and off the property throughout the day. The next modular is coming on June 27th.
Attendance letters went home this week. They were our first letters from our draft attendance policy. This is a requirement of schools. The province is creating a new Policy to replace the one removed later year. Attendance at school daily is important. We understand some of these days are due to illness, bereavement, appointments etc. Whatever the reason they were absent and missed out on learning. AHM will align with the provincial attendance policy when it is completed and released. You can see attendance on your Parent Portal, Report Cards and you report absences on school messenger. Here are a few facts to help you understand why we think this is crucial to improve and a critical situation.
27% of our students missed between 11-19 school days.
12% of our students missed between 20-29 school days.
10% of our students missed 30 or more days.
We had a few students who missed over 60 days.
We hope you now understand why we are working hard, which began with our pre-K group this year to have good attendance habits.
Over the summer the school will be closed, and we reopen on August 26, 2024. If you are looking to register your child for school, please call the Student Welcome Centre at 506-856-2216 or you can email swcmoncton@nbed.nb.ca. This is for all new registrations at Arnold H McLeod for the fall of 2024-2025.
Mrs. MacNeill thanks everyone who popped into the school Thursday after school to say hello and goodbye. She will miss everyone oh so much, but not all the work it takes to run such a successful school.
We hope everyone has safe and enjoyable summer break!
